About This Impact Story
| The model technology villages initiative, led by Areka Agricultural Research Center, demonstrates the power of integrated agricultural research and technology transfer. Nine villages – Wamura, Etana, Ocha, Suta, Areda, Mentedubo, Selam Sefar, Dogewuyibo, and Shanba – have been transformed through the delivery of improved technologies. Over 940 farmers (610 men and 330 women) have benefited from free distribution of high-yielding enset, teff, barley, maize, cassava cuttings, improved poultry, dairy feed, and enhanced banana and pineapple varieties. During a field visit, SEARI Director General Dr. Abiyot Mebrate praised the initiative as a model for scaling agricultural innovations. The program demonstrates how collaboration between researchers and farmers can accelerate technology adoption, boost productivity, and improve household nutrition and incomes. |
